Green Dot is Mick’s initiative that focuses on the importance of artists to consider their impact on the environment in their practices.

Environmental protection is an important issue for Mick, and she works to minimize the negative impact of her art practice on the environment.

Mick does this by working on natural wood that is sustainably harvested by a local forester, rather than working on manufactured substrates. She intentionally leaves her artwork unframed so that the natural or live edges frame her pieces rather than using manufactured frames.

Natural materials are used in Mick’s artwork as much as possible (natural beeswax, damar resin harvested from trees, natural colour pigments, unbleached paper, and other environmentally friendly products).

Vintage and found objects/materials are also used for their aesthetic quality, historical meaning and to underscore the fact that consumerism is harmful to the environment by accelerating climate change, depleting natural resources, and generating massive waste streams.

Mick is working on growing Green Dot by encouraging other artists to be environmentally conscious in their creative processes and by sharing information about environmentally conscious art practices.

10% of all proceeds from Mick’s artwork sales are donated to environmental protection initiatives.

A green dot is placed on the back of each piece Mick creates to indicate that environmental best practices were used in creating the artwork.
